Cold Brew Coffee: My Summer Staple and a Recipe for This Easy-to-Brew-at-Home Drink
If you know me well, you're probably aware of my love of coffee, and specifically Flat Whites. And while I continue to drink these on cool summer mornings, I often turn to Cold Brew coffee as my mid-day and weekend drink of choice during the hot summer days here in Northern California. There's just something about a refreshing glass of Cold Brew coffee on a warm summer morning out on the patio. Bliss!

Bonus? Cold Brew is SUPER easy to make yourself!

So this year skip the tie and get him one of these rad gifts from a small business that are sure to knock his socks off.

Meet the Maker: Nathanael Miller of the Air Plant Hub

Meet the Maker: Nathanael Miller of the Air Plant Hub

So while I love gardening and have a burgeoning collection of plants (my husband may call me a plant hoarder or crazy plant lady), I did not always have a green thumb.

I'm ashamed to admit it, but I've killed more than one succulent. But I think that's why I'm particularly drawn to air plants -- they are hearty folk.

And HOW COOL is it that they don't need soil to survive? Kind of blew my 8th grade plant biology brain.

Meet the Maker: Doneice Trotter of Pure Honey

Meet the Maker: Doneice Trotter of Pure Honey
Two of my favorite Davis Farmers Market ladies grace the entrance of the covered vendors section -- Dianne Madison of Yolo Press on the left, and Doneice Trotter of Pure Honey on the right. Yolo Press has the best olive oil, fruits, jams and gorgeous flowers. Doneice over at Pure Honey has a delightful assortment of raw honey, infused honey and caramel. And her stand is ALWAYS decorated with the most beautiful flowers from other Farmers Market vendor

5 Gifts Teachers Would Love to Receive This Teacher Appreciation Day

5 Gifts Teachers Would Love to Receive This Teacher Appreciation Day

I come from a family of teachers and educators, including elementary teachers, special education teachers, librarians and school administrators. My husband is considered the black sheep of the family because he’s in healthcare. So Teacher Appreciation Week and end of school were always popular events in my house.

The value of education and and appreciation for educators was instilled in us from an early age. So while Teacher Appreciation Day may be on Tuesday, May 8th, I hope all the teachers out there know how much they are loved and appreciated all year long.

Spring Has Sprung (And So Have Allergies!)

Spring Has Sprung (And So Have Allergies!)
Sacramento didn't earn the nickname of "City of Trees" for nothing. In fact Sacramento has the largest tree canopy in the Unites States (and third in the world). But along with the spectacular flora of the Sacramento area also come some downsides. There are many great things about living in Northern California, but seasonal allergies is not one of them.

Meet the Maker: Heather Wong, Owner of The Allspicery

Meet the Maker: Heather Wong, Owner of The Allspicery

The Allspicery was born out of Heather Wong's passion for cooking and travelling, and a realization of the scarcity of great quality and diverse spices in the Sacramento-area.The Allspicery is "Sacramento's one-stop spice shop" and features every day spices as well as uncommon, hard-to-find ingredients. They also offer unique spice blends, spice "kits" and in-house blended loose-leaf teas.

Without her love of travel, The Allspicery as we know it probably wouldn't exist.  But Heather didn't grow up traveling. She was afforded the opportunity to travel extensively while she obtained her MBA. Even before classes began, she was off to Peru. This kick-started her passion for travel and by the time she graduated with her MBA she had traveled to the Middle East, Greece, Africa and even studied abroad in Shanghai.

Unique and Special Ideas for Baby's 1st Easter Basket

Baby's firsts are always special, and that first Easter basket is an opportunity to celebrate spring, new beginnings and that sweet baby of yours. I always have fun shopping for Easter baskets for the boys and put a lot of care and thought into their first Easter baskets (for the toddlers now it's mostly from the Target Dollar Spot, but hey they like it!).

Below are 10 of my favorite items for baby's first Easter Basket.

International Women's Day, A Day For ALL to Celebrate!

International Women's Day, A Day For ALL to Celebrate!

While I'm not a mom to girls, I still view my role as a boy-mom as important in the fight for women's equality.

As parents it is our responsibility to raise good humans. Not only is it up to us as parents to raise the next generation of strong, confident women, but it's also up to us as parents of boys to raise compassionate boys who believe in the radical notion that women are equal to men (i.e. feminism).
